What is the Symbiosis?
One man's waste is another man's raw material!
The thinking behind Kalundborg Symbiosis is that one man's waste is another man's raw material. The Symbiosis is a collaboration between private companies, public companies and Kalundborg Municipality to facilitate sustainable production. And it works – both in economic and environmental terms. We call it industrial symbiosis because all parties benefit from the collaboration. One could also call it common sense! More than 30 pipes now connect the involved industries and many different waste products, such as gas, waste water and sludge are shared every day. Simultaneous production of electricity, heat and steam makes the greater efficiency, thus saving considerable amounts of energy.
Systems make it possible, humans make it happen!
Good relations and communication between the involved parties are crucial to the success of the collaboration. Kalundborg Symbiosis has many years of experience facilitating collaboration between private and public partners so that new ideas emerge and projects realised.
